Though the subject of Physiology is not that alien to the scientific society of Pakistan, the legitimate prestige that the subject of Physiology justifies is still lacking. The main reason for this lack is the absence of awareness seminars, insufficient subject-dedicated workshops, and an extreme shortage of technical meetings and symposiums for Physiologists in general and early-career researchers in particular. For quite some recent time, many postgraduate pieces of research in various Life Science institutes in the country primarily focus on using natural indigenous products to prevent, manage, and treat multiple disorders. However, on the flip side, there is no platform where these researchers can engage together, pool their ideas, and share their findings so that collaborative viewpoints may be hatched and a synergistic and well-coordinated direction for future research projects may be apprehended.
The Physiological Society Pakistan has always been convinced to do something about such lacunas and for that, we organized a two-day (January 12-13, 2023) symposium dedicated to early-career Life Scientists, particularly Physiologists. We have intended to launch a series of symposia under the umbrella of a visionary trademark, 'Pakistan Young Physiologists Symposium (PYPS)'. Under this brand, we have planned to organize a scientific symposium every year on a dedicated theme encompassing different scientific subject matter every year. For PYPS-2023, we selected the theme of 'The Dynamics of Metabolic Disorders: Era of Alternative & Complementary Medicine' due to the recent unprecedented importance and popularity of the subject among the scientific community.
The symposium was attended by all the National stakeholders on the subject of Physiology and gratefully representatives of Physiology Departments of many National Universities, in particular, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, The PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and The University of Agriculture Faisalabad delivered their valuable lectures. The PYPS-2023 included an inaugural session followed by a keynote session comprising scholastic lectures from many National & International well-renowned Physiologists followed by two plenary sessions incorporating plenary talks and over 100 oral talks by early-career scientists picked up from submitted abstracts. These talks incorporated the latest insights into various metabolic disorders and covered the latest findings of the speakers' research on metabolic disorders.
The inaugural session and keynote sessions were held in STC Hall, New Campus, Government College University, Faisalabad, while the plenary sessions of both days were conducted in Amphitheaters of Department of Physiology, Government College University, Faisalabad. To enhance the networking between the speakers and participants and among the participants themselves, there were tea breaks and one brunch session intended to promote social networking, one of the core objectives of the symposium. The overall goal of all exercises was to hit a broad audience of University students and to promote the value of Physiology subject among physiologists and non-physiologists.
