Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam
Vice Chancellor, GCUF.
Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam is an accomplished educationist who has made significant contributions to teaching, research, administration, policy, and institutional development over the course of more than thirty years of his career. He is currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Faisalabad. With multiple campuses, it caters to the higher education needs of youth across all socio-economic strata.
Previously, he served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Rasul, Mandi Bahauddin, a newly established university situated in rural settings along the River Jhelum, where he was responsible for upgrading a historic college of technology into a full-fledged university. During his tenure, he successfully implemented a development project worth more than six billion rupees. Prior to that, he served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, another large institution of higher learning with nine campuses spread across seven cities in Punjab, ranging from Dera Ghazi Khan in the south to Attock in the north. At this university, his efforts focused on strengthening educational facilities at remote campuses located in relatively less developed areas of the province, such as D.G. Khan, Vehari, Joharabad, and Attock.
The services of Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam have positively impacted tens of thousands of young lives, enabling them to achieve their aspirations and contribute to national development as successful professionals in fields such as science and technology, business, entrepreneurship, community service, and education, among many others. He has also contributed to several high-impact development projects in AJK, KP, and Balochistan as a consultant on Computer-Aided Learning, Curriculum Development, and Teacher Training. In addition, he has actively served as a member of the governing bodies of the Punjab Education Foundation, Punjab Examination Commission, University of Okara, University of Sahiwal, Lahore Garrison University, and several other institutions.
The contributions of Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam to the education sector in Pakistan are widely recognized and highly respected.
Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen
Patron In Chief
Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen is the founding Patron In Chief of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. She is currently serving as Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad. She holds a PhD from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and two Post Doctorates from Newcastle University, UK. Dr. Jabeen is HEC approved Supervisor and awardee of INSPIRE and SPEKE projects funded by the British Council (UK) and HEC (Pak). She has several International and National Research Projects on her credit. She got Excellent Leadership Awards from Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Arabia for the years 2011 and 2015. She has attended more than 50 International conferences in USA, UK, Egypt, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Turkey, Ireland, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Jabeen published over 100 articles in high impact science journals. Dr. Jabeen is the awardee of HEC University Best Teacher Award-2016. With an academic experience of more than 22 years, she enjoys a strong research outlook with many PhD and MPhil students to her credit.


Dr. Haseeb Anwar
Patron
Dr. Haseeb Anwar is the founding Patron of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. Currently he is working as Chairperson of Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), Punjab, Pakistan. He holds a graduate degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and M. Phil in Parasitology from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He has worked as Research Associate, Veterinary Officer and Assistant Research Officer in various prominent Institutes of Pakistan. He completed his doctorate degree (PhD) in Physiology in 2011 from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. In 2012 he started his professional career as In-charge /Assistant Professor at Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, GCUF and since then he is attached to the same Institute. Under his leadership and vision, more than 100 MPhil and 06 PhD students have completed their post-graduation. He has won numerous research funds worth more than 10 million from different funding agencies. Also 1st Prof. Samina Jalali Gold Medal in "Reproductive Physiology" conferred by the “The Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan” 2019, research productivity award 2015-16 and 2016-17 from GC University, Pakistan Eminent Scientist (Life Sciences) in Galaxies of Who is who in Pakistan, 2011 South Asia Publications, Pakistan and Awarded Star laureate, 2011, South Asia Publications, Pakistan. He established various lab groups in Department of Physiology and an Animal Experimental Station. He developed various collaborations with National and International institutes for the exchange of students. He holds membership of National and International Boards, Societies and Associations. His area of research involves metabolic disorders including diabetes and associated complications, hypertension and gut microbiome. In short, he possesses self-awareness, garner credibility, focus on relationship-building, bias for action, exhibit humility, empower others, stay authentic, present himself as constant and consistent.
Dr. Arslan Iftikhar
Convenor
Dr. Arslan Iftikhar is the Convenor of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. He is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University, Faisalabad. He holds a graduate degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and an MPhil in Physiology from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He has worked as Research Associate at the Institute of Pharmacy, Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He started his full-time professional career in 2014 as Lecturer at the Department of Physiology, Government College University, Faisalabad. Later, he left for France for his doctorate studies and earned his PhD from the Department of Functional Genomics and Cancer, Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC), University of Strasbourg, France. His doctoral research was aimed at exploring the role of histone variants and DNA repair machinery in cancer epigenetics. He resumed back his services in the Department of Physiology, GCUF in October 2019. Currently, his research group is involved in the molecular-level exploration of the pancreatic regenerative potential of various natural products. He is the author and co-author of several high impact factor peer-reviewed publications. Apart from mentoring undergraduate students, he has supervised 07 MPhil students and currently supervising 03 PhD and 10 MPhil students. He is the Full Member of The Physiological Society, United Kingdom, American Physiological Society, USA, French Psychological Society, France, Endocrine Society, USA, & European Society of Endocrinology, United Kingdom. Overall, Dr. Arslan tends to keep up with recent progress in the field of Physiology and is a prolific academician having command of teaching, research, and administration in various capacities.


Dr. Ghulam Hussain
Member, Advisory Board
Dr. Ghulam Hussain is the Advisory Board Member of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. He is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad. He started his career in the department of Physiology in 2013 as an Assistant Professor. He earned his MPhil and PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Strasbourg, France, under the HEC Scholarship program. He did his Postdoc at Huaqiao University, China, in 2019. He has authored more than 125 research and review articles with an Impact Factor of about 280. He has mentored 3 PhD and 28 MPhil students, while 6 PhD and 8 MPhil students are working under his supervision. He established Pakistan’s first laboratory named “Neurochemicalbiology and Genetics Laboratory (NGL), which is dedicated to working on the regeneration of the Nervous system (CNS and PNS) after traumatic injury. The focus of his laboratory is to figure out the therapeutic strategies to accelerate peripheral nerve regeneration following a traumatic injury and genetic bases of hereditary disorders in the Pakistani population. His laboratory is working with the collaboration and cooperation of world’s renowned universities such as Rochester University (USA), University of New South Wales (Australia), Huaqiao University (China), University of Strasbourg (France), and Kyungpook National University (Korea).

Dr. Shahzad Irfan
Member, Advisory Board
Dr. Shahzad Irfan is the Advisory Board Member of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. He has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, GCUF since 2018. He has completed his postgraduate studies at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. After completing his MPhil degree in Reproductive Physiology, Dr. Shahzad Irfan secured HEC indigenous scholarship and got enrolled in the PhD program of the Department of Animal Sciences, QAU under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahab. During his PhD research work, he was able to secure a 3-year funding program from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to complete his PhD research work in Germany. He joined the Center of Reproductive Medicine & Andrology (CeRA) of the University of Munster WWU and started working as a graduate research officer under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stefan Schlatt. The research work of Dr. Shahzad Irfan during his post-graduate studies includes reproductive biology, pre and post-natal gonadal development, and neuroendocrinology. He specifically worked on different non-human primate models and studied their development and biology in the context of reproductive organs and hormones. Since joining the Department of Physiology, GCUF, Dr. Shahzad Irfan has been focusing on the pathophysiology of metabolic disorders in relation to reproductive endocrinology by using different animal models. Currently, he is supervising two Ph.D. students and 6 MPhil students.


Dr. Humaira Muzaffar
Member, Advisory Board
Dr. Humaira Muzaffar is the Advisory Board Member of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. She is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University, Faisalabad. She carried out her graduate degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), MPhil and PhD in Physiology from Institute of Physiology & Pharmacology, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. She has a good experience in laboratory animal handling & dose administration protocols. During her PhD she established & characterized rat model of induced hyperglycemia in the lab. Her doctoral research was intended at exploring the effect of high protein diet on pancreatic beta cell regeneration & functioning in diabetic rat model. She started her professional career in October, 2020 as Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiology, Government College University, Faisalabad. Currently, her research group is involved in exploring the aspects of in vivo animal models of metabolic disorders, the gene expression analysis, nutrigenomics & health biology. She is the author and co-author of several high impact factor peer-reviewed publications. Apart from mentoring undergraduate students, she has supervised 08 M.Phil. students and currently supervising 02 PhD and 06 MPhil students. Overall, Dr. Humaira is highly motivated young scientist and academician who tends to keep up with recent progress in the field of molecular Physiology.
Dr. Imran Mukhtar
Member, Advisory Board
Dr. Imran Mukhtar is the Advisory Board Member of The Physiological Society, Pakistan. Dr. Imran joined the Department of Physiology, GCUF as Assistant Professor in June 2022. He graduated in Pharmacy from BZU Multan and did his MPhil Pharmacology from the Institute of Physiology and Pharmacology, UAF, Faisalabad. He enrolled his PhD under the supervision of Dr Haseeb Anwar and was also awarded International Research Support Initiative Program-HEC HEC (IRSIP). He conducted his research work from Faculty of Health Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He completed his multidisciplinary PhD in October 2019 and stood pioneer PhD student of the Department of Physiology, GCUF. His area of research includes gut microbiome interactions with orally administered drugs, biostructures, pharmacokinetics, toxicology, gut ecology and drug transporters. He has studied extensive dynamics of gut microbiome interactions with orally administered drug both in vivo and in vitro trials. He developed and established “in vivo gut microbiome drug absorption assay” that opened new horizon of research in the field of Pharmacology, Physiology, Biochemistry and Medicinal Chemistry and has won 3.2 million funding in assistance of NRPU project with his supervisor entitled “Engulfment of pure and commercial drug by the gut microbiome”. He has worked previously as Assistant Professor (IPOP) in Post Graduate Medical College, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, IUB and has supervised 02 MPhil students. Currently, he is monitoring Health Biology Lab and collaborating with local as well as international research groups. He has published fifteen research articles, book chapter and review articles in renowned local and international journals.


Dr. Arslan Shaukat
Member, Advisory Board
Dr. Arslan Shaukat is the Advisory Board Member of The Physiological Society (TPS). He is currently serving as Assistant Professor at Department of Physiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF). He completed his graduation in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He holds master’s degree (MS) from the United Kingdom. He started his career as Lecturer at Department of Physiology, GCUF in 2014. Along with his teaching he completed his Doctorate degree (PhD) from aforementioned Department. His research expertise include synthesis, characterization of nanoparticles and its application in metabolic disorders primarily diabetes mellitus. Now he is exploring various underlying pathways involved in disease progression and prevention. He is currently supervising 05 postgraduate students. Not only he is loved by all students also he is courageous, detail-oriented, creative, persistent, and communicative person who encourages everyone around him to chase their goals.
